Must Do these 10 things after installing WordPress

Installing WordPress is one of the first steps to create a website or blog quickly and easily. Thanks to its easy use and accessibility for any user with or without experience, you can have your site ready in a matter of a few days (even hours!).

However, installing WordPress is not the same as having our page ready. It is a good step but there are still things to do.

10 things to do after installing WordPress

If you’ve already installed WordPress on your own domain, you’re on the right track!

Let’s see some of the main actions you can take to advance in the creation of your blog or website:

Basic setup

Enter the main Dashboard and click on the Settings> General section . Here you can modify aspects such as the title, your email, the time zone, the date format, the default profile for users who subscribe to your site (if necessary) and much more.

Modify the permalinks (or permanent links)

To improve the positioning in Google and have a good image of the URLs, you have to modify the permanent links. In most cases the default settings make them look like this:

Never use our URLs like this!

To modify it, all you have to do is enter the Settings section > Permanent links . Then select the option “input name”. In this way, the URLs will have the keywords of your title, they will be much more accessible and with a better ranking in search engines.

Delete the post and page included

When WordPress is installed, the platform comes with a post (entry) and a page published as a demo. The post is called “Hello World!” and the “Sample Page” page. Are they of any use? I don’t think so 🙂

To delete them, go to the “Entries” option, select it and click on “Move to Trash” or “Trash”. For the page it is the same but in the Pages section.

Install Akismet

No matter what type of page you are going to create with WordPress, we don’t want it to be flooded with spam. To avoid this, install the plugin “Akismet”, which is responsible for automatically filing spam where it belongs and so you do not have to deal with “junk” comments that are useless.

Google Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools is a series of tools that will help you detect any type of error on your site, avoid SPAM, infections and malware and know the status of your site according to its position in Google.

It informs you of the keywords in which you appear listed, the position, the CTR, the clicks and a lot of useful information for any webmaster interested in increasing the traffic of their site.

Enter Google Webmaster Tools here and start the configuration.

Basic SEO Settings

To ensure that you have the maximum opportunity to position yourself in the best way in Google, it is necessary to do an SEO (On-Page SEO) configuration. This includes installing a plugin of basic SEO functions (WordPress SEO by Yoast or All-in-One SEO Pack) such as titles, description, keywords, etc.

Also create the sitemap as we saw in the previous point and some other things. If you want to know how to do a good SEO configuration,

Install the essential plugins

The wonder of WordPress is that we can install plugins that improve the performance of the platform in different aspects such as design, marketing, social media, security and much more. A primary step is to install the essential plugins, no matter what your niche or topic is.

With a huge universe of design and template possibilities, I highly doubt that you want to use the theme that comes bundled with your WordPress installation. The first step in finding the ideal template for your site is to be very clear about your goal.

What type of page are you going to create?

It can be a personal blog, a business blog, a corporate site, a virtual store, a sales letter, a photo gallery or any other.

After you know what you need, start searching Google for free themes or better yet, invest in a professional template with many more possibilities.

It is well worth investing a few amount in a premium design that gives you quality, professionalism and above all: security for your project.

Create the essential pages

No matter what your site or blog is going to do, you will most likely need to create the following pages:

  • Contact (Tutorial )
  • About (also often called “About Me”, “About Us”, Who Am I “or” Who Are We?)
  • Privacy policies
  • FAQ (if necessary)
  • Another type of page needed that is specific to your topic

Add Content

If you are creating a blog, why not start writing articles? One of the best options that WordPress has is the possibility of programming the entries. That is, you can write 10 articles and schedule them to be published as often as you want (it can be one a day, one a week, 3 a week, etc).

If you are not creating a blog, add all the necessary information in the pages section.

By completing all the tasks that I suggest in this article, your site will be more than ready to start receiving visits and meeting its objectives!

Perhaps it is not all that has to be done, it will depend a lot on what you need, but even so, at the end you will have taken a big step.
